Savvy Weddings: Kassi and Will Rieger

First Love

When Will Rieger proposed to his now wife Kassi, he sent her on a scavenger hunt that paid tribute to their long history together.

The pair met in the fifth grade when Kassi moved to Will’s school district and joined safety patrol. Will, one of the captains, chose her to be his lieutenant, but it wasn’t until middle school and high school that the two became friends. Their junior year, Will and Kassi were on student council together, and her softball coach was his history teacher. While Kassi was on a softball retreat, the coach mentioned that Will asked as much about her as she gushed over him. The couple went on their first date the next week.

Four years later, Kassi was staying with Will’s family for a week in North Texas before spending the summer in Kansas City, where her family now lives.

Best Day Ever

One day, she got a note from Will telling her to dress up, as they were going on a special date. The “date” was actually a scavenger hunt that doubled as a trip down memory lane. The first clue sent Kassi to their elementary school, where their safety patrol advisor presented her with a clue that led her to their middle school, where one of her best friends was waiting. That clue led her to the high school, where the pair’s student council sponsors produced additional clues that led Kassi to a nature preserve and another of her best friends. The two walked along the path together before Kassi went on her own to find Will, who proposed.

Although the proposal was grand, Kassie envisioned something simple for the wedding.

“I wanted an outdoor wedding and I wanted it to be the following summer if we could make that happen, which we did,” Kassi said.

The bride set to work finding a dress while she was spending the summer in Kansas City and found herself at Savvy Bridal. Although she had originally wanted a dress with long sleeves and a mermaid silhouette, she fell for an airy halter gown with lace and tulle.

“It was very simple, very elegant,” she says.

The Riegers said “I do” on May 19 lakeside at Rock Creek Ranch in McKinney, Texas, before moving into the property’s barn for the reception, the part of the day they were most looking forward to.

Party Time

“We both really like to dance, so we were excited for the ceremony, but we were really excited for the reception because we wanted everybody to have a good time and get to party and celebrate with us,” she explains.

Both know how to swing dance but hadn’t choreographed their first dance for the reception prior to the big day. During the 20 minutes they had together between the ceremony and the reception, they figured out what they were going to do and hit the dance floor, kicking off an evening of fun.

With the wedding in her rearview mirror, Kassi shared her advice for other couples planning their weddings.

“Don’t get bogged down in the little details,” she says. “At the end of the day, it’s really not going to matter, you’re still marrying your best friend.”
