When to Shop for Your Wedding Dress
Give Yourself Enough Time to Snag Your Dream Dress
There are dozens of articles out there hoping to help you with your wedding timeline. It’s overwhelming, we know. There are a few things to decide before really determining when you should buy your wedding dress: What is your budget? And do you know what you want?
Custom Wedding Dresses
If you have a larger wedding gown budget, and know what you want, you might decide to order a custom wedding dress. If you decide to order a custom wedding dress, you’ll need to start working with a wedding dress designer at least 10 months out. It takes a lot of time to go through the design process, and then to hand-create the design.
Order Your Favorite
If you have a medium budget, checking out dresses that you can order in your own size from a bridal boutique like Savvy Bridal might be the right option for you. In this case, you can try on lots of different styles and designers and fits to find what’s best for you, and then the shop can order it in your size and alter it so that it’s perfectly you. If this is the route you go, plan to buy your wedding gown at least 8 to 9 months before your wedding day.
Off-the-Rack
If you have a lower budget, don’t worry! There’s a solution for our savvy brides as well. You can buy a wedding dress off-the-rack and have it altered to fit your size. 6 months is the time recommended to brides who plan to buy off the rack and have it altered (if needed.) That’s not to say you can’t start shopping 10 months out with the larger budget brides, but the rule-of-thumb is to not wait any longer to buy than 6 months before your wedding to ensure time for alterations, cleaning, buying the proper undergarments and accessories, etc.
